[Reporter Kang Young-jin] Gyeongju's luxury culture and art festival, the 49th Shilla Cultural Festival 2022, is drawing attention as it attempts to make drastic changes to a festival that expands its civic-led role and grows together with the region.
The Shilla Cultural Festival, which marks its 49th anniversary this year, is showing a new aspect to regain its status and reputation as it is the first face-to-face event since COVID-19.
Starting with the Shilla Arts Festival, which was held from the 30th of last month to the 3rd of this month, fun, touching, and various experience contents are continuing throughout the city, promoting the splendid prelude to the Silla Cultural Festival (Festival), which will open on the 14th.
In particular, the biggest feature of this year's Silla Cultural Festival is that it will be divided into an art festival and a festival, which will be held for three days from the 14th to the 16th after the art festival.
The Shilla Cultural Festival has formed a civic festival management team for each major content, away from the government-led festival format, to create an event where citizens take the lead in participating and communicating by planning and promoting the festival.
It also actively utilized the local cultural and artistic infrastructure to prevent their outflow and lay the foundation for growth in the region.
In addition, it is trying to change so that visitors can stay and consume at the festival venue day and night, such as art markets, moonlight chaos made up of merchants, and Silk Road Festa, a street performance and art festival.
Mayor Joo Nak-young said, "After COVID-19, we are holding events by accepting various business methods to successfully carry out the cultural and artistic situation and new core contents. We will continue to discover the change into a festival with Gyeongju's characteristics and programs that encompass all generations."
