[시사뉴스 강영진 기자] 대구시는 국가정보원, 국가보안기술연구소, 경상북도와 함께 10월 27일(목)부터 ‘2022 사이버공격방어대회(Cyber Conflict Exercise)’를 대구 엑스코에서 개최한다.
사이버공격방어대회는 2017년부터 사이버보안 대응 역량 강화와 전문인력 양성을 위해 매년 열리고 있는 국내 최대 규모 대회로, 공공팀(국가·공공기관 직원), 일반팀(대학생·직장인), 학생팀(중·고등학생) 등 세 개 부문으로 진행된다. 특히 올해는 사이버보안 꿈나무 인재 양성을 위해 중·고생이 참가하는 ‘학생 부문’이 처음 신설됐다.
‘디지털플랫폼 시대의 사이버안보’를 주제로 치러지는 이번 대회는 지난달 온라인 예선을 거쳐 공공 20팀, 일반 10팀, 학생 10팀이 해외 초청팀(5개국)과 함께 경쟁한다.
본선이 오프라인으로 개최되는 것은 3년만으로, 최근 2년은 코로나19로 인해 온라인으로 치러졌다. 본선 진출팀은 운영진이 마련한 클라우드 가상훈련망에 접속해 실시간 사이버 공격을 방어하며, 각종 사이버 위협 상황에 대한 대응·복구 역량을 평가받는다. 평가는 각 팀이 사이버 공격에 대해 취약점을 찾아 문제를 해결할 때마다 채점되며, 이는 현장 화면을 통해 실시간 공개된다.
부대 행사도 다양하게 운영된다. 10월 27~28일 대구 EXCO에서 ▲신안보 위협 ▲AI와 블록체인 보안 전략 ▲행정클라우드 보안 등을 주제로 한 ‘대구·경북 사이버보안 컨퍼런스’가 온·오프라인으로 동시에 열리며, 한국정보보호산업협회(KISIA) 주관으로 정보보호 제품 전시회도 진행된다.
김정기 대구시 기획조정실장은 “사이버공격방어대회는 세계적 수준의 사이버보안 전문인력 양성을 목표로 한다”며, “올해는 3년 만에 오프라인에서 본선이 치러지는 만큼 예년보다 더 많은 시민들의 참여와 관심 속에 풍성한 대회가 되길 기대한다”고 말했다.

The Cyber Attack Defense Competition is the largest annual competition in Korea to strengthen cybersecurity response capabilities and foster professionals since 2017, and will be held in three categories: public teams (national and public institution employees), general teams (college and office workers), and student teams (middle and high school students). In particular, this year, a new "student sector" was established for the first time, in which middle and high school students participate in fostering promising cybersecurity talents.
Under the theme of "Cyber Security in the Digital Platform Era," 20 public teams, 10 general teams, and 10 student teams will compete with overseas invited teams (5 countries) after an online preliminary last month.
It has been only three years since the finals were held offline, and the last two years have been held online due to COVID-19. The team that advances to the finals will access the cloud virtual training network prepared by the management to defend against real-time cyber attacks and will be evaluated for its ability to respond and recover from various cyber threat situations. The evaluation is scored whenever each team finds a vulnerability and solves a problem for a cyber attack, which is released in real time through the field screen.
Additional events are also held in various ways. From October 27th to 28th, the Daegu and Gyeongbuk Cyber Security Conference will be held at EXCO in Daegu under the theme of ▲ New Security Threat ▲ AI and Blockchain Security Strategy ▲ Administrative Cloud Security, and an information protection product exhibition will be held under the supervision of the Korea Information Security Industry Association (KISIA).
"The cyber attack defense competition aims to foster world-class cybersecurity experts," said Kim Jung-ki, head of the Daegu Metropolitan Government's planning and coordination office. "As the finals are held offline for the first time in three years this year, we hope it will be a rich competition with more citizens' participation and interest than usual."
