[시사뉴스 정윤철 기자] 울산항만공사(UPA, 사장 김재균)는 지난 4일 오전 롯데시티호텔에서 LNG 탱크터미널 운영사인 SK가스(주), 코리아에너지터미널(KET)과 공동으로 울산항 LNG 이용 활성화를 위한 고객 초청 설명회를 개최했다.
울산항 배후 업체 11개사를 대상으로 진행된 이번 설명회에서는 LNG 탱크터미널 공사현황과 계획을 공유하며 LNG 탱크터미널 사업의 이해도를 높이고 시설 이용을 촉진하기 위해 마련됐다.
현재, UPA와 LNG터미널 운영사는 친환경 브릿지 연료로 평가받는 LNG의 취급을 위해 동북아 에너지허브 1단계 부지와 항만배후단지 2공구에 21.5만kl 규모의 LNG 저장탱크 6기(총 129만kl)를 구축할 예정이며, 이 중 탱크 2기는 오는 24년부터 단계적 상업운영을 앞두고 있다.
UPA 정창규 운영부사장은 “기업의 RE100 달성 단계를 첫 번째는 LNG, 두 번째는 LNG와 암모니아 혼소, 세 번째는 암모니아, 네 번째는 그린수소 사용으로 전망”한다며, 울산항을 LNG와 암모니아, 수소 에너지 모두를 선도적으로 공급할 수 있는 친환경에너지 특화항만을 구축하겠다.”는 포부를 밝혔다.
한편, UPA는 지난 8월 기존 ‘오일허브’ 명칭을 ‘에너지허브’로 변경하는 등 울산항을 친환경 에너지를 포괄하는 에너지물류허브로의 도약을 추진하고 있다.

The briefing session, which was held for 11 companies behind Ulsan Port, was designed to share the status and plan of LNG tank terminal construction and to enhance understanding of LNG tank terminal projects and promote the use of facilities.
Currently, UPA and LNG terminal operators are planning to build six 210,000 kl LNG storage tanks (total 1.29 million kl) in the first phase of Northeast Asia's energy hub and two ports' rear complex to handle LNG, which is considered eco-friendly bridge fuel, starting in 2014.
Chung Chang-gyu, vice president of operations at UPA, said, "The company's RE100 achievement stage is expected to be LNG, LNG and ammonia mixed, ammonia mixed, and green hydrogen used."
Meanwhile, the UPA is pushing for a leap forward from Ulsan Port to an energy logistics hub that encompasses eco-friendly energy by changing the existing name of the "oil hub" to "energy hub" in August.
