[시사뉴스 강영진 기자] 지난 4일 봉화 광산 매몰사고에서 극적으로 구조된 광부 두 명이 11일 오전 안동병원에서 입원치료 7일 만에 건강한 모습으로 퇴원했다.
작업반장인 박 모(62)씨는 이날 오전 10시 안동병원에서 기자회견을 열고 기적적으로 구조되어 건강히 퇴원할 수 있도록 도와준 관계기관과 관계자, 국민들께 감사의 인사를 전했다.
기자회견에서 작업반장 박 씨는 “건강을 많이 회복해 집에 돌아가게 되어 감사드린다. 처절한 구조 얘기에 한 명이라도 살리려는 진심이 느껴졌다”며, “24시간 구조작업을 해준 광부 동료들과 현장을 직접 찾아와 구조를 돕고 인적·물적 자원을 적극 지원 해주신 경상북도지사님을 비롯한 도민 여러분, 병원 관계자, 구조 관계자분들께도 진심으로 감사 말씀을 드린다”고 말했다.
또한, “전국 각지에서 동료 광부들이 열악한 환경에서 일하고 있다. 존경하며 자부심을 갖고 일하길 바란다”며 존경의 마음도 함께 전했다.
이날 현장에서 퇴원 광부들을 격려한 이철우 도지사는 “기적은 그냥 일어나는 것이 아니다. 가족들의 애 끓는 마음과, 우리 모두가 구조를 해야 한다는 절실한 마음이 한데 모여 기적이 일어났다. 이 기적이 전 국민에게 희망의 메시지를 전하고 대한민국을 살리는데 도움이 되었으면 좋겠다”며, ‘봉화의 기적’으로 대한민국을 위로하고 기쁨과 희망의 메시지를 전한 생환 광부의 퇴원을 다시 한 번 축하했다.
앞서 지난 10월 26일 봉화 광산에서 지하갱도에 토사가 쏟아지며 두 명의 광부가 지하 190미터 수직갱도에 고립되어 사고 발생 221시간 만인 지난 4일 저녁 11시경 기적적으로 구조됐다.
구조 직후 안동병원으로 이송된 광부들은 탈진, 저체온증, 영양불균형 및 수면장애와 가벼운 경련 증상 등으로 집중치료를 받았다.
상태가 호전됨에 따라 퇴원 후 가정에서 안정을 취하면서 통원치료(근육통, 심리증상 등)를 하고, 경북도는 강원도 정신건강복지센터와 연계하여 심리치료를 지원할 예정이다.
한편, 매몰사고 당시 경상북도는 현장특별대책반을 구성해 인력과 장비, 구호물품 등 구조작업을 적극 지원하였으며, 구조에 소요된 비용 전액을 경북도 재해구호기금으로 부담할 계획이다.

Governor Lee Chul-woo, who encouraged the discharged miners at the scene, said, "Miracles don't just happen. The heart of the family and the desperate need to rescue all of us came together to create a miracle. "I hope this miracle will convey a message of hope to the entire nation and help revive the Republic of Korea," he said, congratulating the discharge of the living miners who comforted the Republic of Korea and delivered a message of joy and hope with the "Miracle of Fire."
Earlier on October 26, two miners were isolated in a 190-meter vertical shaft and miraculously rescued around 11 p.m. on the 4th, 221 hours after the accident.
Immediately after the rescue, the miners who were transferred to Andong Hospital received intensive treatment for exhaustion, hypothermia, nutritional imbalance, sleep disorders, and mild convulsions.
As his condition improves, he will take a rest at home after discharge and provide outpatient treatment (muscle pain, psychological symptoms, etc.), and Gyeongsangbuk-do will support psychological treatment in connection with the Gangwon-do Mental Health Welfare Center.
Meanwhile, at the time of the burial, Gyeongsangbuk-do formed a special on-site task force to actively support rescue operations such as manpower, equipment, and relief supplies, and plans to pay the entire cost of the rescue to the Gyeongbuk Disaster Relief Fund.
