[시사뉴스 강영진 기자] 대구시는 남북 간 주요간선도로의 기능을 담당하는 신천대로의 상습 교통혼잡구간인 동신교 진출로와 청구네거리를 연결하는 국채보상로의 교통혼잡개선 공사를 시행하고 있다.
신천대로 동신교 진출로(청구네거리 방면)는 주변지역개발에 따른 교통량 증가, 본선 및 진출차량과의 엇갈림 발생, 진출로의 차량대기행렬 등으로 인해 상습적인 교통혼잡이 발생하는 구간이다.
신천대로 동신교 진출로는 현재 교통혼잡이 발생하고 있는 국채보상로(청구네거리 방면)와 접속돼 진출로 대기행렬의 길이가 수성교까지 약 570m 정도 발생하고 있으며, 통행시간이 8분이 소요되는 것으로 조사됐다.
이에 따라, 대구시는 교통혼잡에 따른 시민들의 통행불편을 해소하기 위해 올해 5월에 해당구간의 도로개선대책에 대한 실시설계를 완료한 후 6월부터 혼잡개선 공사를 착공해 12월 완료 목표로 시행하고 있다. 공사는 1구간(국채보상로 확장), 2구간(신천대로 동신교 진출로 확장) 구분해 추진하고 있다.
1구간은 청구네거리~동신교까지 4개 차로를 5개 차로로 확장해 도로용량을 확보하고, 2구간은 신천대로 동신교 진출로 확장으로 1개 차로를 2개 차로로 확장해 우회전 차량의 대기공간을 확보하고, 우회전 전용신호기를 설치해 안전하게 국채보상로로 진입할 수 있도록 개선한다.
공사 완료 후 신천대로 동신교 진출로의 차량대기행렬 68% 감소(570m→180m)와 통행시간 5분 단축(8분→3분), 신천동로에서 청구네거리 방향으로 진출하는 우회전 차량 대기행렬 30% 감소, 지체시간은 50% 감소할 것으로 예측된다.
서덕찬 대구시 교통국장은 “공사를 계획대로 완료해 동신교 주변의 교통 혼잡이 개선될 수 있도록 하겠다”며, “해당구간뿐만 아니라 대구시의 상습 교통혼잡구간의 다양한 개선대책을 검토해 대시민에 향상된 안전성과 쾌적한 도로환경을 제공할 수 있도록 노력하겠다”고 말했다.
Daegu-si is carrying out traffic congestion improvement work on the National Debt Compensation Road, which connects Dongsinsungae-ro, a habitual traffic congestion section of Sincheon-daero, which functions as a major highway between the two Koreas, and Cheonggu Intersection.
The Sincheon-daero Dongsinsungae-ro (in the direction of Cheonggu Intersection) is a section where habitual traffic congestion occurs due to increased traffic volume due to the development of the surrounding area, conflicts with the main and entering vehicles, and queues of entering vehicles.
Shincheon-daero's entrance to Dongshin-dong is connected to the National Government Bond Compensation Road (in the direction of Cheonggu Intersection), which is currently experiencing traffic congestion, and the length of the queue is about 570m to Suseong Bridge, and it takes 8 minutes to travel.
Accordingly, Daegu City completed the implementation design of road improvement measures in the section in May this year to ease the inconvenience of citizens due to traffic congestion, and started construction on congestion improvement in June and implemented it in December. The construction is being carried out by dividing the first section (expanded to the National Debt Compensation Road) and the second section (expanded to the Shincheon-daero East New Church).
Section 1 is Cheonggu Intersection.Four lanes to Dongshin-daero will be expanded to five lanes to secure road capacity, and the second section will be expanded to two lanes to secure a waiting space for right-turn vehicles by expanding one lane to Shincheonji, and a signal dedicated to right-turn will be installed to safely enter the government bond compensation road.
After the completion of the construction, it is expected to reduce the waiting line for vehicles to enter Dongsinsa Temple by 68% (570m → 180m), reduce the travel time by 5 minutes (8 minutes → 3 minutes), reduce the waiting line for right-turn vehicles from Sincheon-dong-ro toward Cheonggu Intersection by 30%, and decrease the delay by 50%.
"We will complete the construction as planned so that traffic congestion around Dongshin can be improved," said Seo Deok-chan, director of the Daegu Metropolitan Government's transportation bureau. "We will try to provide improved safety and a pleasant road environment to citizens by reviewing various improvement measures."
