[시사뉴스 강영진 기자] 진보당 경남도당 청년당원들이 4일 저녁 창원 정우상가 앞에서 ‘이태원 참사 청년 촛불 추모제’를 열고 희생자 추모와 책임자 파면을 요구하는 촛불을 들었다.
이날 추모 촛불은 경남청년진보당이 희생자들의 명복을 빌고 추모하는 자리로 마련됐으며, ‘이태원 참사는 희생자들의 잘못이 아니다’ ‘사고가 아니라 참사이다’며 분노를 표출하는 시간이었다.
권지민 경남청년진보당대표는 “국민적 슬픔과 분노를 시민들과 함께 나누고, 막을 수 있었던 죽음이었는데, 156명의 목숨을 앗아간 비극적 참사에 대해 분노를 터뜨리는 자리로 준비하게 되었다”고 밝혔다.
이날 추모 촛불 발언에 나선 청년들은 이태원 참사는 분명한 국가의 책임이고 사회적 참사임을 이야기하며, 윤석열 정권의 책임을 따져 물었다.
김지현 씨는 “정부의 무책임함에 이제는 진저리가 난다. 사후에 국가 애도 기간을 정한다고 해서 죽은 사람이 되살아나느냐”며 “참사의 원인을 정확히 파악하고 재발 방지 대책을 세워야 한다”고 촉구했다.
대학생인 이 설 씨는 “개인에게 잘못을 돌려서는 안된다. ‘왜 거기에 놀러가서 그런 일을 당하냐’고 욕해서는 안된다. 국가가 참사를 막지 못했다”며 규탄했다.
권은진 씨도 “사고 전 112에는 11번의 신고가 접수됐지만 정부는 어떻게 했냐”며 “우리에게는 안전할 권리가 있다. 원하는 곳을 자유롭게 돌아다닐 권리 또한 갖고 있다. 이태원에 있었던 희생자도 마찬가지다”고 분개했다.
이날 추모제에는 진보당 당원을 비롯한 시민사회단체 회원 및 시민들이 함께 어우러져 촛불을 밝히며 희생자들의 명복을 빌고 규탄의 목소리도 높였다.
Young members of the Progressive Party's Gyeongsangnam-do Party held a "Itaewon Disaster Youth Candlelight Remembrance Festival" in front of Changwon's Jungwoo Shopping Center on the evening of the 4th and held candles calling for the memorial of the victims and the dismissal of those responsible.
The candlelight was prepared as a place for the Gyeongnam Youth Progressive Party to pray for and commemorate the victims' repose, and it was a time to express anger, saying, "The Itaewon disaster is not the victims' fault" and "It is not an accident, it is a disaster."
Kwon Ji-min, chairman of the Gyeongnam Youth Progressive Party, said, "It was a death that could have been prevented by sharing public sadness and anger with citizens, and we prepared it as a place to vent our anger over the tragic disaster that killed 156 people."
The young people who made candlelight remarks in memory of the day said that the Itaewon disaster was a clear national responsibility and a social disaster, and asked about the responsibility of the Yoon Suk Yeoln regime.
Kim Ji-hyun said, "I'm sick and tired of the government's irresponsibility. Will the dead be revived just because the national mourning period is set after death, he said. "We need to accurately identify the cause of the disaster and take measures to prevent recurrence."
Lee Seol, a college student, said, "We should not blame individuals. You shouldn't curse, "Why do you go there and get such a thing?" "The nation failed to prevent the disaster," he said.
Kwon Eun-jin also said, "Before the accident, 11 reports were received in 112 but what did the government do?" and added, "We have the right to be safe." They also have the right to wander freely wherever they want. The same is true of the victims who were in Itaewon," he said indignantly.
At the memorial service, members of civil society organizations, including Progressive Party members, and citizens joined together to light candles, praying for the souls of the victims and raising voices of condemnation.
