[시사뉴스 정윤철 기자] 경남대학교 ICT/SW융합혁신사업단(단장 유남현)은 캐나다 브리티쉬컬럼비아 대학의 Yusuf Altintas 교수팀과 공동 연구 MOU를 체결했다고 10일 밝혔다.
캐나다 브리티쉬컬럼비아 대학 Yusuf Altintas 교수팀은 ‘Manufacturing Automation Lab(제조 자동화 연구실)’을 중심으로 CNC머신 공정 최적화와 공구 툴 최적화, Chatter 및 진동 제어, 품질관리 분야에서 독보적인 연구 성과를 보유하고 있다.
이를 통해 제조 공정 분야에서 논문 인용 지수 1위를 기록하기도 했으며, 연구팀을 이끄는 Altintas 교수는 ‘국제생산공학아카데미(CIRP)’에서 발간하는 ‘Manufacturing Science and Technology(제조과학기술)’ 학술지의 편집위원장을 맡고 있는 등 제조 공정분야의 세계적인 전문가로 활동하고 있다.
이번 협약은 경남대 ICT/SW융합혁신사업단이 LG전자 등 컨소시엄과 함께 추진하고 있는 한국형 디지털 플랫폼 ‘WOORI-X’ 구축의 상호 협력을 위해 마련됐으며, 양 기관은 협약을 통해 공동연구 추진 체계 수립 등을 약속했다.
현재 경남대 ICT/SW융합혁신사업단은 유남현 교수를 중심으로 도내 제조업의 디지털 전환을 지원하는 ‘데이터 기반 제조 기술’ 연구에 매진하고 있으며, 최근에는 독일 산업디지털트윈협회(IDTA)와 제조 분야에 활용될 초거대 AI를 구축하기 위해 ‘제조 메타 학습 시스템’을 공동으로 연구하고 있다.
이번 협약을 통해 사업단은 LG전자 협력사가 보유한 CNC머신의 공정 최적화를 지원할 계획이다. 또 LG전자와 함께 제조 데이터의 상호 연계로 제품 성능 향상에 기여할 ‘I4.0전환 시범 프로젝트’도 공동 추진할 계획이다. 이를 통해 2023년 하반기부터 도내 기업에 디지털 전환을 주도할 융합형 혁신 인재를 공급할 예정이다.

The team of professor Yusuf Altintas at the University of British Columbia, Canada, has unparalleled research achievements in the fields of CNC machine process optimization, tooling optimization, chatter and vibration control, and quality control, centered on the 'Manufacturing Automation Lab'.
Professor Altintas, who leads the research team, is a world-renowned expert in the field of manufacturing processes, serving as the editor-in-chief of the journal 'Manufacturing Science and Technology' published by the International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP).
The agreement is designed for mutual cooperation in the construction of the Korean digital platform 'WOORI-X', which is being promoted by the ICT/SW Convergence Innovation Center of Kyungnam University with a consortium including LG Electronics, and the two organizations promised to establish a joint research promotion system through the agreement.
Currently, the ICT/SW Convergence and Innovation Business Center at Gyeongnam University, led by Professor Yoo Nam-hyun, is engaged in research on 'data-based manufacturing technology' to support the digital transformation of the manufacturing industry in the province, and recently jointly researched the 'manufacturing meta-learning system' with the German Industrial Digital Twin Association (IDTA) to build a super-sized AI to be used in the manufacturing field.
Through this agreement, the business unit will support process optimization of CNC machines owned by LG Electronics' suppliers. It also plans to jointly promote the 'I4.0 Transformation Pilot Project' with LG Electronics, which will contribute to improving product performance by interlinking manufacturing data. Through this, it will supply convergent innovation talents to lead digital transformation to companies in Tokyo from the second half of 2023.
